Should I Pursue a Master's in EE with a Background in Microbiology?

AI Thread Summary
Pursuing a Master's in Electrical Engineering (EE) with a Bachelor's in Microbiology raises concerns about job market acceptance and prerequisite knowledge. The discussion emphasizes the importance of having a solid foundation in EE, as employers may prefer candidates with a relevant Bachelor's degree. The rigorous nature of Master's programs necessitates fulfilling prerequisite courses, which could take significant time. There is a debate on whether it is more advantageous to complete a second Bachelor's degree in EE or to proceed directly to a Master's after fulfilling prerequisites. Some participants suggest that obtaining a Bachelor's in EE might be essential for certain job opportunities in various regions.

I would like to get my Masters in EE, but I would just like to make sure that I can get a job in the field with a bachelors in...microbiology. Or would employers think of this as a deficit, preferring to see a solid foundation with a BS in EE instead?

Thanks

Why do you think you can handle a masters in EE? Do you have all the prerequisite knowledge?
Why do you think a masters program will accept you?

I understand that the masters program is rigorous and know that I will have to take 1.5 years' worth of prerequisites. Will they accept me? I don't know.

But, even with my current degree, would it be better for me to take the prerequisites and get a masters rather than to get a 2nd bachelors?

I think it is better for you to go for a bachelor's degree because, in order to work in some states/provinces, you need to have a bachelor's degree

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
