Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around creating a strip board design for a specific circuit, with participants exploring various approaches and considerations related to the design process. The conversation touches on practical aspects of circuit design, including component specifications and design methodologies.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested
  • Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • One participant requests assistance in creating a strip board design for a circuit.
  • Another participant questions the nature of the request, suggesting it may be homework and asking for clarification on the socket type and hole spacing for the 741 op-amp.
  • The original poster clarifies that the hole spacing is 5.0mm and states that they are exploring different design methods rather than seeking homework help.
  • Some participants express skepticism about the open-ended nature of the request, suggesting that there are numerous ways to design the circuit once the underlying theory is understood.
  • One participant suggests that memorizing pinouts for op-amps could be beneficial for long-term understanding and intuitive design.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on whether the request is homework-related or an open exploration of design methods. There is no consensus on the appropriateness of the question or the best approach to take in assisting the original poster.

Contextual Notes

The discussion highlights uncertainty regarding the intent behind the request and the implications of open-ended questions in technical forums. There are also varying assumptions about the level of knowledge and experience of the participants involved.

Hi george084. http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/5725/red5e5etimes5e5e45e5e25.gif

I've never used veroboard so have no specific advice to offer. But what sort of socket do you have for the 741?
What is the hole spacing in your board?

This does look like homework ... If true, you should declare it and move this to a homework forum so that respondants know to exercise restraint in their boundless enthusiasm to assist.

Okay no worries and the hole spacing is 5.0mm. It's not homework, just finding out how many different ways of designing a strip board there are for that particular circuit!

Hmmm.. looks familiar..."just finding out how many different ways".. who thinks like that...

So does everyone have to think a certain way or?

Sorry but the question is too open ended... ether homework, or ...? My point being there are 100+ ways to make that circuit... once you know the theory the circuit is trivial.

An odd suggestion - If you are working with op amps a great deal, you'd do well to memorize the pin outs for the single, dual, and quad configuration.
It's an effort, but it keeps paying off as you can see things intuitively for the next 30 years of your career.
