AI Thread Summary
A sudden increase in heart rate in a 17-year-old boy can be caused by various factors, including physical exertion, stress, or underlying medical conditions. In this case, the boy experienced a significant increase in heart rate while playing, leading to a serious incident that required ICU admission. Subsequent examinations indicated that his auricles were not effectively pumping blood to the ventricles, raising concerns about the potential life-threatening nature of his condition. The discussion emphasizes the importance of consulting a healthcare professional for accurate diagnosis and management, as medical advice cannot be provided in this context.

What have you found in your reading so far?

And what has the boy's doctor said when you brought it to their attention?

Actually his heart beat increased suddenly while playing and he had been admitted to the ICU in serious condition. It was a sheer luck that he is still alive.
After that the incident happened once more within a month.Further check ups revealed that his auricles were ineffectively pumping blood to the ventricles.

I am reading Nicholas Wade's book A Troublesome Inheritance. Please let's not make this thread a critique about the merits or demerits of the book. This thread is my attempt to understanding the evidence that Natural Selection in the human genome was recent and regional. On Page 103 of A Troublesome Inheritance, Wade writes the following: "The regional nature of selection was first made evident in a genomewide scan undertaken by Jonathan Pritchard, a population geneticist at the...
