Tensile Stress Analysis of Bolted Connection

AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on calculating the tensile stress in a bolted connection subjected to a load of 210 kN, considering a safety factor of 2. The yield strength of the plate material is specified as 270 MPa, with a plate thickness of 12 mm and bolt diameter of 10 mm. Participants are reminded to follow forum rules by using the homework template and attempting a solution before seeking assistance. The analysis aims to determine if the plates will fail under the given conditions. Proper adherence to forum guidelines is emphasized for effective problem-solving.

Determine the tensile stress in the bolted connection shown below for the load F = 210 kN. Using a safety factor of 2, determine whether the plates will fail or not if the yield strength of the plate material is 270 MPa and the thickness of the plate is 12 mm. The nominal diameter of the bolts is 10 mm and the clearance holes in the plate are drilled 10.5mm diameter. See attached diagram

I'm sorry, but the Rules of PF ask you to use the HW Template when submitting posts to one of the HW forums.

The Rules also require that you make an attempt at a solution in order to receive help on a HW problem.
