Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the benefits and challenges of using slat walls in interior design. Participants explore the aesthetic and functional aspects of slat walls, including their customizability and maintenance issues.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants find slat walls visually appealing and customizable, suggesting they can create interesting designs.
  • Concerns are raised regarding the difficulty of cleaning slat walls, particularly in non-waterproof environments.
  • There is confusion between slat walls and slate walls, with participants clarifying that the discussion is about slat walls.
  • One participant shares a link to a website and a video related to the construction and design of slat walls.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the aesthetic appeal of slat walls but express differing views on their practicality, particularly regarding maintenance. The discussion remains unresolved regarding the best applications for slat walls.

Contextual Notes

Some assumptions about the environments where slat walls might be used are not fully explored, and the discussion does not address specific cleaning methods or materials that could mitigate maintenance issues.

Here is something I saw today, slat walls.
Looks pretty cool, very customizable.
Vertical pieces of wood (?) mounted (in some cases) in a sheet on the wall with grooves to fit the vertical boards into it. Some interesting designs are possible:

These would be difficult to keep clean (unless in a waterproof room you could hose down).

Slat or Slate walls? And can you post a link to more info? Thanks.

Fixed that.
Slat, like in slats, not slate the rock.
Here is a website I found.

Turns out there are a lot of these. Most are just a boring series of little boards mounted on a wall.
Some, which I had seen before, are grooves cut into a wall board for mounting store display materials.

Here's a video for making computer files and machine cutting of the slats.
