AI Thread Summary
A degree in astrophysics can lead to various job opportunities, but securing a position as an engineer may be challenging due to competition and specific skill requirements. Employers often prefer candidates with direct engineering qualifications, making it rare for astrophysics graduates to be considered for these roles. Research positions outside of astrophysics may be available, depending on the candidate's skills and experience. Networking and gaining relevant experience can enhance job prospects in related fields. Overall, while there are options, the path may require additional qualifications or skills to be competitive.

Can I get a job as an engineer or as a researcher, other than astrophysicist, with a degree(s) in astrophysics?

It would be difficult to compete for an engineering job in the US with an astrophysics degree. It would be the rare or desperate hiring manager who would give you an interview. Then you would need the specific engineering skills they were looking for (which you might have, depending on the field and your background).
