AI Thread Summary
Ferrofluid surfactants create steric and electrostatic repulsions to counteract van der Waals and magnetic forces, preventing particle clumping. Steric repulsion occurs when particles are kept apart due to the physical presence of surfactant molecules. This mechanism is crucial for maintaining the stability of ferrofluids. Understanding these interactions is essential for applications in various fields, including engineering and materials science. The provided links offer additional information on steric effects for further clarity.

hi i am a bit confused as to what Steric repulsions are i know that a Ferrofluid surfactant makes Steric repulsions or electrostatic repulsions to counter the van der Waals and magnetic forces to stop stops the particles from collecting or clumping
many thanks for any help

So I know that electrons are fundamental, there's no 'material' that makes them up, it's like talking about a colour itself rather than a car or a flower. Now protons and neutrons and quarks and whatever other stuff is there fundamentally, I want someone to kind of teach me these, I have a lot of questions that books might not give the answer in the way I understand. Thanks
