Other What is the order to read those string theory books?

AI Thread Summary
For an effective reading order of String Theory books, it is recommended to start with David Tong's lecture notes as a primer, which provide a solid foundation and review of standard texts. Following Tong, the suggested sequence is to read Zwiebach, then Hatfield, and proceed to Green-Schwarz-Witten (GSW). After GSW, tackle Polchinski, then Kaku, and finally West and Johnson (D-Branes). This order is designed to build understanding progressively, ensuring a comprehensive grasp of the subject.

I have many of these books and would personally read Tong's notes as a primer before any serious standard text on the subject.

What about the other books than Tong's?

I would refer you to Tong again. He has a nice review of the standard texts in the first page or two of his work.

A reasonable order would be: Tong, Zwiebach, Hatfield, GSW, Polchinski, Kaku, West, Johnson

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
