Programs What undergraduate degree to take for Molecular Biologist?

AI Thread Summary
To pursue a career as a molecular biologist with an emphasis on genetics, choosing the right community college program is crucial. The discussion highlights two main options: an Associate of Applied Sciences (AAS) in Biotechnology and an Associate of Science (AS) in Biology. While the AAS in Biotechnology includes a molecular biology course, the AS in Biology is favored for its broader curriculum and flexibility, potentially offering more specialization opportunities. Both programs are noted to include relevant coursework, but a general biology degree may be more advantageous for those planning to attend graduate school. Ultimately, the choice should align with career goals in molecular biology and the biotech industry.

Biology is the obvious choice.

I thought AAS BioTech because a portion of the semester involves Molecular Biology

I'm pretty sure the Biology degree program requires a molecular biology course as well. If you want to be a molecular biologist, you're probably going to go to graduate school. A degree in general biology will give you more options as well in what to specialist in.

Actually it involves MicroBiology but as long as I have something relevant to it that's all that matters I believe

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
