AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the decision-making process for a community college student pursuing a TAG to a UC school, with a focus on UC Davis, UCSD, and UCSB. The student is considering UC Davis for a change of scenery after living in Southern California, while acknowledging UCSB's strong chemical engineering program but expressing a desire to move away from the beach lifestyle. Participants emphasize the importance of choosing the best academic program available, suggesting that the quality of education should take precedence over the environment. They note that UC Davis offers a significantly different atmosphere compared to the coastal schools, which could be appealing for someone seeking a new experience.

I am at community college right now doing my TAG (transfer admission guarantee) to a UC school. The problem is you only get 1 school to TAG to. I have been thinking about UC Davis, mostly because I've lived in southern california all my life and wanted a change of scenery.

The other schools I am considering are UCSD and UCSB. It looks like santa barbara has the best chemical engineering program, but it's the beach scene that I've seen all my life and I'm over it. Same thing sort of with UCSD being in so cal.

Any opinions on this?

First, I'd say go to the best school that you can get into. For four years, deal with the scenery.

Second, I'll agree, Davis looks a *lot* different than San Diego or Santa Barbara. You certainly won't have to worry about the beach there!

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
