AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the controversial topic of cousin marriages and their alleged link to genetic abnormalities in offspring. One participant expresses skepticism about the idea that cousin marriages are solely responsible for these issues, noting that such unions have existed for centuries without significant dramatic consequences. The conversation highlights a specific case of a rare condition linked to genetic factors, suggesting that while cousin marriages can lead to inbreeding and associated risks, the timing and prevalence of concerns may warrant further investigation. The dialogue reflects a broader inquiry into the implications of cousin marriages on human health and genetics.

I find it hard to swallow the explanation that cousin marriages are responsible. Guess humanity has been watching these marriages for centuries and nothing dramatic or too much of it has happened but why now ?

This is a known but very rare condition caused by a mis-regulation of SHH protein. In developing chick arms this has been shown to cause odd symmetrical developments.

Why is that? I don't know about this specific case but first cousin marriages many times result in abnormal offspring. It happens due to something called inbreeding.
