Why Can't Regular Members Mark Threads as Solved Anymore?

AI Thread Summary
Regular members can no longer mark threads as solved due to a software update that has affected this feature. The new system includes a method for adding prefixes to threads, but only mentors currently have access to the necessary tools for editing. There is a call for Greg to either grant regular members access to these tools or to restore the previous solved tag functionality. While this change is not seen as a major issue, it was a valued feature among users. Patience is requested as Greg addresses multiple ongoing issues.

Why can't I mark threads as solved anymore?

It hasn't been working since the software update. Greg did warn us that some things might not be working at first.

This is an issue we need to work on. There's a way to add prefixes to threads that we thought would replace the solved tags, but unfortunately, it seems only the mentors can get to the tools to change those prefixes once a thread has been created (it's one of our editing tools). So, either Greg needs to find a way to make those accessible to regular members, or a way to reimplement the old method of adding solved tags. We'll need some patience on this issue, as there are several others Greg is working on already.

OK, its not really a major problem but was a nice feature. (You can mark this thread as SOLVED now :) )

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
