AI Thread Summary
Centrioles exist in pairs because they serve as attachment points for spindle fibers, which are essential for separating chromosomes during cell division. Each pair of centrioles provides a separate point of attachment for the spindle fibers, ensuring that each daughter cell receives a complete set of duplicated chromosomes during mitosis. This pairing is crucial for the accurate distribution of genetic material.

I notice that centrioles always exist in pair. May I know why?

Simplest answer - centrioles are the points of attachment of the fibers that pull apart the pairs of chromosomes - these are spindle fibers. Centrioles are in pairs because two separate points of attachment are required -> one for each daughter cell. Each daughter gets a copy of the duplicated chromosomes during mitosis.
