AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around a portable immersion water heater that features a hook on its heating element, which also bears a ground symbol. The original poster questions the purpose of the hook, suggesting it may seem unnecessary for heating purposes. Responses indicate that the hook could serve as a safety feature, allowing the heater to be hung without direct contact with surfaces, thus preventing burns from the hot element. Alternatively, it may simply be a design choice for retail display. Users emphasize the importance of handling the device carefully due to the high temperatures it can reach.

Hi guys!

I bought a portable immersion water heater, it posses a hook on the heating element & on it i found a ground symbol. For heating purpose heating element is enough why the hook is given. This may look lil bit silly but i just want to know abt.

Well given the temperatures the heating element can get to, it wouldn't be a good idea to hang it on anything with it. (Think home alone and the door handle.)

So I'd hazard a guess that the hook is a way of hanging it without directly touching anything with the potentially scolding heating element.

That or it's some form of shop packaging for hanging it on a rack. In which case you probably want to remove it first.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'

Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
