The discussion centers around the AAPT 2018 Summer Meeting in Washington, DC, with one member expressing interest in attending after a long hiatus and suggesting a meet and greet for forum members. Anyone going?? I recently renewed my membership having let it go for ~20 years and since I live on the edge of the District and work in the District I was thinking of going.

Maybe have a meet and greet among the Forum members??

Meet and greet would have been cool.. but it seems no one else goes.
(Admittedly, it is expensive to go to. I'm thankful that I often have access to funds that help pay for my attendance.)

I've been going regularly and presenting (at least once a year) since 2004
(from this past decade https://www.aapt.org/Conferences/meetings.cfm , I only missed Atlanta (2017), New Orleans (2013), Philadelphia (2012), Omaha (2011)).
But this summer, I thought to give myself a break and work on writing up some papers...

I find AAPT meetings a good place to get "recharged"... by getting ideas and sharing ideas, as well as catching up with some colleagues.
If you can go, you should.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
