AI Thread Summary
Freeware options for generating X-ray spectra from a standard Tungsten anode include SpekCalc, which offers a free light version. For more advanced modeling, Monte Carlo simulation software like BEAMnrc is recommended, as it includes modules for kV radiographic sources. Other freely available codes such as GEANT4, MCNP, and PENELOPE also provide similar capabilities, although they may require a significant investment of time to learn and utilize effectively. These tools allow for the generation of spectra based on different filtration and tube potentials, offering flexibility in source description.

Hi there,

Was just wondering if anyone knew of any good freeware for generating X-ray spectra from a standard Tungsten anode that you might see in medical radiography? Would be good if it could export data as well, but yeah and just wanting something that can potentially generate the spectra given different filtration and tube potentials.

Another option might be to go the full Monte Carlo route. BEAMnrc, for example has modules for kV radiographic sources. I imagine most of the other freely available codes such as GEANT4, MCNP, PENELOPE, etc. have something similar. There's a learning curve to climb with any of these, so it will depend on how much time you want to invest, but they'll give you the most flexibility in describing your source.

This week, I saw a documentary done by the French called Les sacrifiés de l'IA, which was presented by a Canadian show Enquête. If you understand French I recommend it. Very eye-opening. I found a similar documentary in English called The Human Cost of AI: Data workers in the Global South. There is also an interview with Milagros Miceli (appearing in both documentaries) on Youtube: I also found a powerpoint presentation by the economist Uma Rani (appearing in the French documentary), AI...
