Undergrad Why can't sodium vapour lamp be used in spectrometer experiment
i was working with a spectrometer and the aim of the experiment was to find the refractive index of a prism for various colors. i was asked specifically to use mercury vapor lamp and was insisted not to use sodium vapour lamp. why is it so? -

Calculate the velocity of the transverse wave at any position
sir, the string here has considerable mass.let us consider the part x(as i have mentionedin prob) and l-x separately.why isn't the weight due to upper part pushing down the lower part and contributing to tension? isnt it just like a block placed over another as in this case it is clear that...- harini_5

Calculate the velocity of the transverse wave at any position
a string of length l and mass m hangs freely from a fixed point calculate the velocity of the transverse wave at any position sol: mass per unit length is m/l let there be a point on the string at a distance x from free end tension at the point=wt of the string per unit length*part of the...- harini_5

Why Does Expanding a Charged Spherical Shell Require Work?
Homework Statement A spherical shell of radius R with uniform charge Q is expanded to a radius H.find the work done by electric forces during the shell expansion given answer is 1/(8pi epsilon) *Q^2(1/R-1/H) my attempt work=-change in P E =Q(V1-V2) =1/(4pi epsilon)...- harini_5

Undergrad Radius of Curvature of a Train Turning North East
A train is moving towards north at one place. it turns towards north east. here we observe that the radius of curvature of outer rail will be greater than that of inner rail why?pls explain velocity and radial acc. are the same and radius of curvature=v^2/a normal -

Help with Kinematics: Moving Towards Origin
An object is moving in 3D space with position vector vectot r=(x)i+y(j)+z(k) and velocity vector v=a(i)+b(j)+c(k) i,j,k are unit vectors along x,y,z axes If the object is always moving towards origin, then (a) a/x =b/y = c/z (b) (a/x)(b/y)(c/z)<0 (c)ax+by+cz<0 (d)ab/xy >0 x,y,z,a,b,c...- harini_5

A problem on rotational mechanics
Hi, I'm actually working on a problem in Rotational mechanics. I'll just hint the problem. In a rotating body, tangential acc=(radius)angular acceleration. velocity=(radius)angular velocity.thus, [tangential acc/angular acceleration] =[velocity/angular velocity] can we use the...- harini_5
