Convert mg/s to SCCM (Standard Cubic Centimeters per Minute)
Hello, Can anyone explain the procedure to convert mg/s to SCCM? I'm working with an Alicat Mass Flow Controller, which regulates Argon (Ar) mass flow from 1 to 6 mg/s at 27o C or 300 K (room temperature). For documentation purpose, I need mass flow in terms of mg/s, as well as, SCCM. Thank...- jagadeeshr

Undergrad Interpreting Copper & Argon Emission Spectral Lines with Plasma Spectroscopy
Hi, I recently started working on MPD Thrusters. During a recent experiment, spectral images (uncalibrated) were obtained. The thruster is made of copper and the propellant is argon. These two elements will be the source of emission spectral lines. I need help to interpret them. I have...- jagadeeshr

Undergrad How can I identify the appropriate spectral line for Doppler calculation?
Ah. Based on the image in the blog, I had assumed that the shift will be uniform across the entire spectrum. Thank you.- jagadeeshr

Undergrad How can I identify the appropriate spectral line for Doppler calculation?
24.25 km/s from a shift of 4 pixels in that particular spectral image. 1 pixel is 0.2 Å, shift is 4 pixels or 0.8 Å. 3*10^5*(-0.8/5424.1) = -44.25 km/s+ 20 km/s = -24.25 km/s Formula of Doppler shift as function of velocity: Δλ / λ = V/ C (Calculations)- jagadeeshr

Undergrad How can I identify the appropriate spectral line for Doppler calculation?
Hi, I was looking into Doppler shift calculations, and I came across this blog post. It gives a very simple and straight forward account of calculating the velocity of a star. Following is the summary the blog post: Spectrum of Alpha Centauri (A. Cen.) is obtained through Lhires III...- jagadeeshr

Undergrad Velocity Estimate from Schlieren Flow Visualization
Hi, Thanks for the reply. I'll try to suspend aluminium foil or other light weight objects in front of the dryer. For calculations, should I be familiar with any equations?- jagadeeshr

Undergrad Velocity Estimate from Schlieren Flow Visualization
Hi, I recently came across a blog on schlieren visualization (http://ottobelden.blogspot.in/2010/07/homemade-schlieren-photography-setup.html). I replicated it with the following: Convex lens (130 mm dia and 350 mm focal length), LED light source (5 mm white LED) and smartphone camera (Moto G4...- jagadeeshr

Calibrating Argon Spectrum with MicroLab Spectrometer Model 141
Hi, Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if lanthanide salts are available locally. I'll check fluorescent lamps, they have two bright lines at 546.5 nm (mercury) and 611.6 (europium). https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fluorescent_lighting_spectrum_peaks_labelled.gif- jagadeeshr

Calibrating Argon Spectrum with MicroLab Spectrometer Model 141
Thanks for the reply. The project budget will be approved in March, until then no "official" purchases can be made. So, I was looking for cheap alternatives.- jagadeeshr

Calibrating Argon Spectrum with MicroLab Spectrometer Model 141
Hi, I need some help to calibrate argon spectrum. I have a MicroLab Spectrometer (Model 141) to obtain spectral images of argon plasma. To calibrate the spectral images, I need a reference of known wavelength. Usually, a discharge tube is used to obtain the reference spectrum. However, I...- jagadeeshr
