AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on creating a DC adapter with specifications of 13.5V and 6A output, suitable for 240V input. Participants emphasize the importance of adhering to safety regulations when working with AC mains voltages, suggesting that a transformer-based solution may not meet the desired output specifications. A switching regulator is recommended as a potential solution, though it introduces additional design complexities. The existence of similar power supplies available in other regions, such as the TEAC 66-135000V model, is noted, indicating that alternatives may be accessible. The user expresses interest in finding a suitable adapter available in India while questioning the impact of a 1 amp difference in output.

Any links or suggestions would be really helpful. I have a basic understanding about transformers, bridge rectifier & capacitor. I need help in shopping what transformer, diodes & capacitors should i buy. I tried to search online but couldn't find any. Adapter Specs IN> AC:100v-240v OUT> DC:13.5v 6AMP.
What I'm trying to make is
http://www.faylist.com/allliquidation/adapters/creative_ua1460_ac_adapter.htm
for 240V input instead 120V IN.

Thanks..

Welcome to the PF.

Can you tell us what safety regulations apply to the AC Mains side of the adapter? Are you going to build it to UL safety specs, or TUV, or some other agency's safety specs? Working with AC Mains voltages is dangerous, so it's important that you understand the construction techniques that are required at the input section for the switch and transformer.

Also, your specs, "IN> AC:100v-240v OUT> DC:13.5v 6AMP" are not achievable with a transformer-based adapter. You would need to make a switching regulator to accomplish those specs, and that involves even more design issues...

Well,
I have about safety regulations But I'm certain that AC mains gives out 240V. What I'm trying to make is one of these http://www.faylist.com/allliquidation/adapters/creative_ua1460_ac_adapter.htm
But this one takes 120 V input & its not available in India. I want to make one as i specified above.

Creatiive certainly sell similar power supplies that run on 240V. I've got one sitting next to my PC right now in the UK. Model Number TEAC 66-135000V. 230V in, 13.5V 5A out. It looks the same as your picture.

Your specification "IN> AC:100v-240" means it will work on either 120 or 240V mains.

I don't know if there are any issues about them being unavailable in India, though.

Cool Thanks. I wonder how much difference would 1 amp make. I'll try to find if it is available here.

Thread 'I need a concave mirror with a focal length length of 150 feet'
I need to cut down a 3 year old dead tree from top down so tree causes no damage with small pieces falling. I need a mirror with a focal length of 150 ft. 12" diameter to 36" diameter will work good but I can't think of any easy way to build it. Nothing like this for sale on Ebay. I have a 30" Fresnel lens that I use to burn stumps it works great. Tree service wants $2000.
Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...
