AI Thread Summary
Users are encountering issues with superscript and subscript formatting in Mathematica when attempting to sum over two indices, specifically with the expression (x^(i,j))-i. The error arises from the difficulty in correctly formatting the indices in the software. It is suggested that users focus on the calculation rather than the formatting to avoid frustration. Despite the presence of help resources, many new users struggle with implementing these features effectively. Clear guidance on handling superscripts and subscripts in Mathematica is needed for better user experience.

I believe if you stop trying to desktop publish the format and just try to calculate the answer that you will have results with much less frustration.

I realize textbooks use sub and super scripts and you find words like sub and super script in the Mathematica help. But again and again new users find they cannot figure out how to make this work.
