Detailed engineering design, technology

AI Thread Summary
For detailed engineering design and technology information on various devices and manufacturing processes, Wikipedia is recommended as a comprehensive resource. Users can also find informative videos on YouTube that cover specific manufacturing processes, though searching for precise terms like "die casting" or "friction stir welding" is necessary for best results. Sites like HowStuffWorks and Popular Science provide basic information but may not meet the need for in-depth details. Overall, combining these resources can enhance understanding of complex technologies. Exploring these avenues can satisfy curiosity about devices like cameras, fridges, and helicopters.

Hi,
is there a website that gives the detailed design and technology of various devices/equipment and/or manufacturing processes?
howstuffworks, popsci and other similar sites have very trivial and basic information.

some typical examples i am trying to find are.. camera, fridge, helicopter, fiber optics..etc. etc.
just for curiosity

thanks
Nitin

Wikipedia is a good place to start.

You can find a lot of manufacturing process videos on Youtube, surprisingly. They're fairly detailed. It's a good place to start. I think you have to search for a specific term though, like "die casting" or "friction stir welding".

My water meter is submerged under water for about 95% of the year. Today I took a photograph of the inside of my water meter box because today is one of the rare days that my water meter is not submerged in water. Here is the photograph that I took of my water meter with the cover on: Here is a photograph I took of my water meter with the cover off: I edited the photograph to draw a red circle around a knob on my water meter. Is that knob that I drew a red circle around my meter...
Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...
