A book for a mathematical description of GR

AI Thread Summary
A request for recommendations on books covering the mathematical foundations of General Relativity (GR) sparked a discussion focused on rigorous texts that do not delve into Differential Geometry. The consensus highlights "General Relativity" by Robert Wald as a classic choice, recognized for its thoroughness. Additionally, a newer recommendation is "General Relativity" by Straumann, which is noted for being at a similar level of rigor. Both texts are considered suitable for those seeking a solid mathematical understanding of GR without the complexities of Differential Geometry.

Hello everyone
I need a good book dealing with the mathematical foundations of GR. I am looking for a rigorous one but i don't need a book on Differential Geometry. Just the stuff i need for GR. Thanks for the replies!

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
