Algebra A Course in Algebra Book Study Group | Self-Learning Support

Click For Summary
A Course in Algebra by E.B. Vinberg is being studied by individuals seeking to form a book study group for collaborative learning and discussion. The idea is to create a supportive environment for self-learners to share insights and tackle exercises together. Additionally, a suggestion is made to consider "Algebra: Chapter 0" by Aluffi as an alternative resource. Concerns are raised about the effectiveness of online group studies, with recommendations to explore platforms like Math Stack Exchange or Art of Problem Solving for more structured group study opportunities.

Hey everyone,
I'm currently studying A Course in Algebra by E.B. Vinberg, and I was wondering if anyone is studying the same book. I think it will be a less lonely journey for all of us self learners if we can form a book study group to discuss ideas and exercises.

Hi! Just to give a second thought about the book, you might be interested in "Algebra: Chapter 0" by Aluffi. I am not sure if the group study over online is effective though. You might be interested in asking that question to the Math Stack Exchange or Art of Problem Solving as I believe both websites have active group study, and have corresponding websites.

Many years ago, as the internet was coming of age, I burned over 500 pounds of technical manuals. I realized I can look things up on the internet faster than I can find something in a technical manual. And just about anything I might need could be found online. But letting go of my several shelves worth of college text and other science books is another matter. I can't bring myself to get rid of them but there is very little if anything I can't find online now. Books are heavy and a pain...
This thread only works as a summary from the original source: List of STEM Masterworks in Physics, Mechanics, Electrodynamics... The original thread got very long and somewhat hard to read so I have compiled the recommendations from that thread in an online (Google Drive) spreadsheet. SUMMARY Permits are granted so you can make comments on the spreadsheet but I'll initially be the only one capable of edition. This is to avoid the possibility of someone deleting everything either by mistake...
