SUMMARY

Adding voltage to a kids Powerwheels toy is a common modification, with the discussion centered on increasing the stock 24v system by an additional 6v to achieve 30v. The proposed method involves using a Single Pole Single Throw (SPST) relay to bypass the motherboard and supply the extra voltage directly to the motors. Concerns were raised about the motherboard's capacity to handle the increased voltage, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that all components can safely operate at the new voltage level. The discussion highlights the necessity of considering motor compatibility when modifying voltage levels.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Powerwheels electrical systems
  • Knowledge of SPST relay functionality
  • Familiarity with voltage ratings and motor specifications
  • Basic electronics skills for circuit modifications
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the specifications of the Powerwheels motherboard for voltage tolerance
  • Learn about the compatibility of motors with different voltage ratings
  • Explore wiring diagrams for SPST relay installations
  • Investigate safety measures for electrical modifications in toys
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for hobbyists, parents modifying Powerwheels for enhanced performance, and anyone interested in safe electrical modifications in children's toys.

Hi Guys,

I thought I'd ask the experts. I have a kids Powerwheels toy that I would like to add more voltage to. The vehicle is setup with 24v stock and I would like to add another 6v bringing it up to 30v. I not really sure the motherboard can take the additional voltage. Would it be safe to use a SPST relay and add 6v directly to the motors, bypassing the motherboard? So my setup would be running the stock 24v through the entire circuit and the additional 6v would be combined just before the motors when the relay is activated?

Thanks,
Chris

Are you changing the motors to higher voltage versions?
