In summary, the conversation discusses the concept of a gas spring that can be adjusted during operation by releasing or injecting gas. The person is looking for an automated system, similar to a linear actuator controlled by a directional valve and compressed gas from a pressure reservoir. However, this system may not be efficient as it only has full pressure and exhaust pressure options.

Hey,

Has anyone heard of a gas spring that could be adjusted in mid operation? The gas could be released from the gas spring to decrease the pressure inside and alternatively gas could be injected by a compressor to increase the pressure in gas spring.

I have only found gas springs, in which the gas can be released. And this is typically achieved by manually releasing the gas. But I am looking a gas spring system that could be modified in an automated fashion.

Thanks!

Consider a typical linear actuator, (pneumatic cylinder), controlled by a directional valve, (maybe solenoid operated), with compressed gas from a pressure reservoir.

That appears to be what you are considering.

Such a system will be inefficient as only full pressure and exhaust pressure are available.

1. What is an adjustable gas spring?

An adjustable gas spring is a type of mechanical spring that uses compressed gas, typically nitrogen, to store and release energy. It is designed to provide controlled and adjustable force to assist in the lifting or lowering of an object.

2. How does an adjustable gas spring work?

An adjustable gas spring works by using a piston and cylinder filled with compressed gas. When the piston is compressed, the gas is forced into the cylinder, creating a force that can be adjusted by changing the amount of gas inside the cylinder. This force is then used to assist in lifting or lowering an object.

3. What are the advantages of using an adjustable gas spring?

There are several advantages of using an adjustable gas spring, including its ability to provide precise and controlled force, its compact size, and its durability. It is also cost-effective and requires little maintenance.

4. How do I find the right adjustable gas spring for my application?

The right adjustable gas spring for your application will depend on several factors, including the weight of the object, the required force, and the desired stroke length. It is best to consult with a supplier or engineer to determine the appropriate gas spring for your specific needs.

5. Can an adjustable gas spring be automated?

Yes, an adjustable gas spring can be automated by using a gas spring with an integrated electronic control unit. This allows for remote control and precise adjustment of the gas spring's force, making it ideal for automated applications.
