AI Thread Summary
A user expresses interest in pursuing a career in medical physics after graduating with a physics degree, seeking insights into current research areas such as radiation physics and imaging techniques. They request information from medical physics researchers and links to seminal review papers to guide their exploration of potential work opportunities. Another participant shares a resource, highlighting a collection of papers from the journal "Physics in Medicine & Biology" and promotes their own research work, which the original poster finds valuable for further study.

Hello,

[aside]
So I've seen a lot of medical physics related posts on this forum recently, as well as some good answers to questions (thanks go out in particular to Choppy!) and would like to get out-of-the-way my support for a medical physics subforum. Anyway, on to the point.
[\aside]

I'll be graduating from a physics degree shortly, and haven't got anything sorted for next year as far as work/research projects etc. go - partly because I've been taking time to think and partly because of personal circumstances. That said, I've been interested in medical physics for a while so I've been trying to get an idea of the active areas of research that are around at the moment, with a view to applications for next year. So far, I've taken an interest in radiation physics as well as ophthalmic and brain imaging - I'd like to hear from any medphys researchers out there either about their own area or links to any review papers on 'seminal' type work for the field, basically so I can get a start on ideas for where I might wish to work.

thanks,

ftj

Thank FTJ,

This might be what you're looking for:

Physics in Medicine & Biology's 2008 Highlights. (I believe these papers are freely available.)

Thank you, Choppy, that looks to be exactly what I'm looking for. I'm going to spend a good bit of time reading through those, as well as your own work before posting further.

TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
Yesterday, 9/5/2025, when I was surfing, I found an article The Schwarzschild solution contains three problems, which can be easily solved - Journal of King Saud University - Science ABUNDANCE ESTIMATION IN AN ARID ENVIRONMENT https://jksus.org/the-schwarzschild-solution-contains-three-problems-which-can-be-easily-solved/ that has the derivation of a line element as a corrected version of the Schwarzschild solution to Einstein’s field equation.
