Homework Help: AP Biology Genetics Punnet Square

    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data
    A shmoo is a hypothetical genetic organism. Suppose you learned that shmoos may have long, oval or round bodies and that matings of shmoos result in the following:
    long x oval produced 52 long and 48 oval
    long x round produced 99 oval
    oval x oval produced 24 long, 53 oval, and 27 round
    what hypothesis about the inheritance of shmoo shap would be consistent with these results?

    What is the probable genotypes of parents in the following matings:
    a checkered brown bird mated with a plain brown bird produced 13 checkered brown and 15 plain brown birds.
    checkered brown bird and plain red bird produced 19 checkered red birds.
    checkered brown bird and plain red bird produced 9 checkered brown birds, 8 checkered red birds, 7 plain brown birds, and 1 plain red bird.
    checkered red bird and plain red bird produced 14 checkered red, 4 checkered brown, 6 plain red, and 5 plain brown birds.
    plain red bird adn plain red bird when mater produced 32 plain red and 12 plain brown birds.

    For the first question, shmoo genetics:

    The hypothesis is that there is codominance between long (LL) and Round (RR)

    The squares illustrate incomplete dominance of the two alleles and the oval shmoos have a genotype of LR or RL; making them an oval hybrid.
