AI Thread Summary
Len Hao from China is seeking information on schools that offer a bachelor's degree in psychiatry, expressing a strong desire to become a psychiatrist. However, responses clarify that a bachelor's degree in psychiatry is not available in the US or Australia, as psychiatry is a medical specialization requiring a medical degree. In the US, any undergraduate degree is acceptable as long as premed courses are completed, while in Australia, a medical program typically spans 4-6 years, followed by additional specialization. Admission to medical programs is highly competitive and costly, with limited spots for international students. The discussion also touches on the possibility of pursuing a degree in psychology, which is more commonly offered and could lead to a career in mental health. The complexities of the education system and admission processes in Australia are highlighted, emphasizing the need for high academic performance to progress in medical studies.

I don't know how it works in China, but in the US, you cannot get a bachelors degree in psychiatry - you need to get a medical degree to become a psychiatrist. Your undergraduate degree doesn't matter as long as you took the premed classes. Were you perhaps thinking of psychology? That's a very common major, offered at most colleges and universities.

What was said by the poster above also applies in australia. A psychiatrist is a specialization of medicine and thus you need a 4-6 year program in medicine. You then need to do medical registration and then you specialize in some field which takes a further 4-6 years.

If you're interested in psychology a typical program takes about 6 years while in the process you have to maintain very high marks to go to the next stage.

Medicine programs do accept foreigners in australia, but its very very competitive and it will cost you a lot of money (at least that's how it is in australia). There are some spots reserved for international students. Only a few thousand candidates (possibly even lower) get a spot to do medicine so overall don't be surprised if you miss out the first time.

is that mean the education is complicated in australia or the addmission

is the complicated point in australia and what is the best school for medicin in australia

and if anybody know about the education plan please tell me

thanke you every body for your reply

I’ve been looking through the curricula of several European theoretical/mathematical physics MSc programs (ETH, Oxford, Cambridge, LMU, ENS Paris, etc), and I’m struck by how little emphasis they place on advanced fundamental courses. Nearly everything seems to be research-adjacent: string theory, quantum field theory, quantum optics, cosmology, soft matter physics, black hole radiation, etc. What I don’t see are the kinds of “second-pass fundamentals” I was hoping for, things like...
TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
