AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around identifying an instrument featured in a specific song, with the user initially suspecting it to be an electric violin. They provide a link to a website where the song can be heard, noting that the instrument takes a solo around the 0:57 mark. The user also considers the possibility of it being a synthesizer sound and references Don "Sugarcane" Harris, who is known for playing electric violin on Frank Zappa recordings. While they recognize a similarity in timbre, they express uncertainty, suggesting that the electric violin may have been processed through an effect pedal. Ultimately, there is agreement that the instrument is indeed a violin, likely electronic in nature.

I've been trying to figure out what instrument this is. I was think maybe electric violin but I don't think that's what it is.

Unfortunately there is no video on youtube with this song so I have a link to another website.

It's the second one down (the instrument takes a solo at about the 0:57 mark).

I was also thinking maybe a weird setting from a synthesizer.

google shows a Don "Sugarcane" Harris playing electric violin on many Zappa recordings, and that's what my ear thinks it is

Possibly. I listened to this one and I can hear the resemblance in timbre but it doesn't sound quite right, maybe the electric violin is put through some sort of effect pedal?

Yes, it's a violin. Electronic in this instance, probably.

Just ONCE, I wanted to see a post titled Status Update that was not a blatant, annoying spam post by a new member. So here it is. Today was a good day here in Northern Wisconsin. Fall colors are here, no mosquitos, no deer flies, and mild temperature, so my morning run was unusually nice. Only two meetings today, and both went well. The deer that was road killed just down the road two weeks ago is now fully decomposed, so no more smell. Somebody has a spike buck skull for their...
