AI Thread Summary
To successfully boot a computer with Windows 2000 from a CD, it is essential to ensure the boot sequence is correctly set in the BIOS, with the CD drive prioritized first. Users should verify that the CD is indeed bootable, as not all Windows 2000 CDs are configured for this purpose. If the CD fails to boot, consider using bootable floppy disks as an alternative method, which typically requires four disks for installation. Additionally, check if the correct CD drive is being used, as having multiple drives can lead to confusion.

You need to set the boot sequence in the bios. That's the only way. Also, do you have multiple CDROMS?

it's already set as 1st in bios. there is E = cd rom and D = dvd
in bios E is 1. ATAPI CD-ROM Drive, 2. Removable Devices, 3. Hard Drive, 4. Network Boot
then it has > hard drive, > removable devices

I had the cd in E drive

Well yes, option one I'd imagine...

Try both CD drives, once I tried to boot from CD but then realized I had the CD in the wrong drive...

It's in your bios somewhere...

is the cd bootable?

Make Windows 2000 bootable floppy disks, Windows 2000 CD is not bootable.

You will need 4 floppy disks I think.
