Car race riddle (not too hard, not too easy)

AI Thread Summary
In a race between a red car and a blue car, the red car has a 20-minute head start and a top speed of 70 mph, while the blue car can reach 80 mph. The problem poses a straightforward physics question about how long it will take for the blue car to catch the red car. An additional narrative element introduces a mystery involving the red car's driver, who is found with a dagger in his chest, a dog in a Sherlock Holmes hat, and a puddle of water. The discussion blends a simple math problem with a whimsical mystery, prompting participants to engage with both aspects. The thread highlights a creative approach to problem-solving and storytelling.

My mum told me this one, it's pretty cool :).

The red car and the blue car are having a race. The red car, which has a top speed of 70mph has a 20 minute head start over the blue car, which has a top speed of 80mph.

Assuming that top speeds are reached the very instant a car starts, and that the top speeds are constant, how long will it take, in minutes, for the blue car to catch up with the red car?

This isn't really a brain teaser.. its a simple physics problem...

Okay I'll add another element. When the blue car finally catches up with the red car, the driver of the blue car looks through the window and notices that the driver of the red car has a dagger through his chest. On the passenger side seat sits a dog wearing a Sherlock Holmes hat, who woofs twice. There is also a small puddle of cool water in the front footwell. How did the driver of the red car die?

Anyway sorry I didn't realize that this wasn't the place for this kind of problem :D.

Lol...

Kindly see the attached pdf. My attempt to solve it, is in it. I'm wondering if my solution is right. My idea is this: At any point of time, the ball may be assumed to be at an incline which is at an angle of θ(kindly see both the pics in the pdf file). The value of θ will continuously change and so will the value of friction. I'm not able to figure out, why my solution is wrong, if it is wrong .
TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
