AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on issues related to adding conference proceedings to a BibTeX database. Users are experiencing problems with the formatting of entries when using different BibTeX entry types such as @CONFERENCE, @INPROCEEDINGS, and @PROCEEDINGS. Key concerns include the title not being italicized, loss of capitalization, incorrect author order, and hidden author names. The solution emphasizes that the bibliography style (.bst file) ultimately controls the output, regardless of the entry type used. Users are encouraged to explore resources for creating custom bibliography styles to achieve the desired formatting, including proper author names, italicized titles, conference details, and publication year.

I'm unsure about the appropriate location for this thread, so please move this topic, if necessary.

I'm trying to add conference proceedings to my BibTex database, but I can't manage to get it working.

If I use @CONFERENCE or @INPROCEEDINGS, the title of the paper will not be italicized and capitalization is lost in the final document and the order of authors is changed into, what appears to me, a random order.

If I use @PROCEEDINGS, the name of the authors are hidden.

In all three cases I put the name and edition of the conference in Publisher.

What I want is the following:
- Name of authors
- Title in italics
- Name and edition of conference
- Year

That is under the control of the bibliography style (.bst file).

Thanks, that's very useful :)

I don't know if you are being ironic, so I'll expand on my answer.

In a sense, it doesn't matter what entry type you choose if the bibliography style won't give you what you want.

You can check out http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/custom-bib/ if you want to make your own.

No, I was being sincere. I've already seen the styles come by and now I know what to do to solve my problem. Thanks.

In my discussions elsewhere, I've noticed a lot of disagreement regarding AI. A question that comes up is, "Is AI hype?" Unfortunately, when this question is asked, the one asking, as far as I can tell, may mean one of three things which can lead to lots of confusion. I'll list them out now for clarity. 1. Can AI do everything a human can do and how close are we to that? 2. Are corporations and governments using the promise of AI to gain more power for themselves? 3. Are AI and transhumans...
Thread 'ChatGPT Examples, Good and Bad'
I've been experimenting with ChatGPT. Some results are good, some very very bad. I think examples can help expose the properties of this AI. Maybe you can post some of your favorite examples and tell us what they reveal about the properties of this AI. (I had problems with copy/paste of text and formatting, so I'm posting my examples as screen shots. That is a promising start. But then I provided values V=1, R1=1, R2=2, R3=3 and asked for the value of I. At first, it said...
