AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around calculating the cost of each canned ham from an old invoice showing the purchase of 144 cans for a total amount represented as $x34.7y. Key points include the requirement that the total cost must be divisible by 48, indicating the last digit is 2, and divisible by 9, which means the first digit is 2. This leads to the conclusion that each can costs $1.63. The conversation then shifts to a lighter topic about why people use different fingers to dial 911, with a humorous example of a caller who has injured their finger.

An old, an somewhat illegible invoice shows that 144 canned hams were purchased for $ x34.7y.

How much does each can cost ?

Assuming the cans cost an inetger number of cents:

the total cost must be divisble by 48which means the last digit is a 2 (as in order to be dividsble by 8 the last 3 digits must be divisible by 8)

the total cost must alos be divisble by 9 (which means that the sum of it's digits must be divisble by 9), which means the first digit is 2

therefore the cost o each can is $1.63

jcsd with the ham !

Too easy, that one...

As this is a quickie thread:

Why do some people dial 911 with their third finger and some with their forefinger?

Is there some reason you avoided the more common "middle finger" usage ?

Caller says, "Send an ambulance, I cut off my finger!"
