AI Thread Summary
To permanently delete user messages in the Control Panel (CP), it's important to clarify whether these are visitor messages on a public profile. Mentors and admins typically have the ability to delete messages permanently, but the specific policy on reporting messages for deletion is unclear. Users can limit or stop visitor messages through the edit options menu in their profile settings. One participant expressed frustration over seeing deleted messages still visible, indicating a desire for a cleaner interface. The discussion concludes with confirmation that visitor messages can be permanently deleted and that users can adjust their settings to prevent future postings.

How can I get the user messages in my CP deleted for good? I select the delete but I still have the title and who originally posted the question. I would like to clear them all out.

Thanks.

Are you referring to visitor messages on your public profile? I suspect that the mentors and admins can delete for good. I don't know what the policy is for reporting messages for deletion. You can however limit or stop visitor messages in the edit options menu of My PF.

Others aren't able to see that in your profile!

Yeah. Those are the ones. I didn't know about stopping them. I'll have to look for that setting. It drives me a bit nuts to see these deleted messages still there. It's an OCD thing on my part.

I've permanently deleted your visitor messages. As Kurdt says, you can select the option to not allow anyone to post visitor messages in your My PF.

Very good. Thanks for the help guys.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
