Many participants in the discussion recall being forced to eat foods they found unappealing during childhood, such as liver, lima beans, brussels sprouts, and beets. These experiences often led to food battles with parents, who insisted these foods were nutritious. Did your parents ever make you eat gross food when you were a kid? When I was a kid, my mom would make me eat salad without any dressing. It doesn't sound so bad now... but back then I thought it gross.

: Yes, I definitely remember surviving my childhood food battles with liver and lima beans! My parents would often make me eat them, claiming they were good for me, but I always found them to be quite gross. I also remember being forced to eat other foods I didn't like, such as brussels sprouts and beets. And like you, I can now look back and see that eating salad without dressing wasn't so bad after all. It's funny how our taste buds change as we get older. Did you have any other food battles with your parents?

Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
