Schools Directory of Colleges that offer Ph.D. programs in the U.S.

AI Thread Summary
There is a lack of comprehensive directories specifically listing colleges and universities that offer Ph.D. programs in Computational, Mathematical, or Theoretical Physics. While some resources exist, such as directories that allow searches for U.S. graduate programs based on data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System and the National Research Council, they do not categorize schools by major research areas. Suggestions for useful resources include the American Institute of Physics' Grad School Shopper and a specific physics graduate program directory found at physicsgre.com. Users are encouraged to consider collaborating to create a more organized resource for prospective Ph.D. students.

Does anyone know if there is a directory of Colleges & or Universities that offer Ph.D. programs in Computational, Mathematical, or Theoretical Physics? I've looked all over the internet & can't seem to find any.

There are a couple directories out there that let you search for US graduate programs in physics using criteria from Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, National Research Council and Survey of Earned Doctorates surveys.

Unfortunately, there is not really anything that organizes schools by their major research areas... (perhaps users of this board might try to put something together?)

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
Yesterday, 9/5/2025, when I was surfing, I found an article The Schwarzschild solution contains three problems, which can be easily solved - Journal of King Saud University - Science ABUNDANCE ESTIMATION IN AN ARID ENVIRONMENT https://jksus.org/the-schwarzschild-solution-contains-three-problems-which-can-be-easily-solved/ that has the derivation of a line element as a corrected version of the Schwarzschild solution to Einstein’s field equation.
