Double slit experiment (geometric maths problem)

AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on the double slit experiment and a specific geometric relationship in the accompanying diagram. The main question is about the equality BP - AP = BD, with a request for clarification on how this is derived. It is noted that PA is approximately equal to PD because the segment AD is very small in comparison to the other lengths involved. Participants are encouraged to provide insights or calculations that clarify this relationship. Understanding this geometric aspect is crucial for grasping the underlying principles of the experiment.

I understand the experiment and the trigonometry involved except for one statement.

Why is BP-AP=BD in this diagram

How do you know this/ work it out.

Many thanks

PA = PD to a very good approximation as AD is extremely small compared to both.

Thank you

So I know that electrons are fundamental, there's no 'material' that makes them up, it's like talking about a colour itself rather than a car or a flower. Now protons and neutrons and quarks and whatever other stuff is there fundamentally, I want someone to kind of teach me these, I have a lot of questions that books might not give the answer in the way I understand. Thanks
