Dow Molykote 3402C: What is the Friction Factor (K)?

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the friction factor (K) for Dow's Molykote 3402C anti-friction coating, with participants seeking information on its value and related coefficients of friction. The scope includes inquiries about product specifications and technical data.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant asks for the friction factor (K) for Molykote 3402C, indicating it is a significant question.
  • Another participant suggests that the first result from a Google search may provide the needed information.
  • A different participant expresses difficulty in finding the friction factor or coefficient of friction in available literature.
  • One participant points to a specific source (ellesworth.com) and suggests checking the PDF datasheet for relevant information.
  • Another participant confirms they have reviewed the brochures but did not find the "K" factor or a definitive coefficient of friction, indicating they have also reached out to Dow for clarification.
  • A later reply offers a link to a brochure that may contain the information being sought.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not appear to reach a consensus on the availability of the friction factor (K) or the coefficient of friction, with some expressing frustration over the lack of definitive information in the literature.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include the absence of clear definitions or values for the friction factor (K) and coefficient of friction in the referenced materials, as well as the reliance on external sources for information.

The first hit on the Google search list seems to give those numbers...

I cannot find it...

Google search on Molykote 3402C

First hit on the list is for ellesworth.com

Click into that, scroll down and open the PDF datasheet document for the product from Dow...

Well, I hate being an idiot but I have been there and those brochures and things shown do not list a "K" factor that I can find. I did not even find a definitive mu (coeff of friction) in any of Dow's literature. I have asked Dow and am waiting to hear from them but thought I'd ask here also...

thanks

Is this the kind of thing you are looking for? Or were you looking for something different?
