Dynamics (Kinematics) relative motion, HELP

AI Thread Summary
The problem involves determining the velocity of piston C in a rotating bar AB with an angular velocity of 10 rad/s at an angle of 45 degrees. The user calculated the velocity Vb using the equation Vb = w * rab, resulting in 2108.2 cm*rad/s. They are uncertain whether to use the given angular velocity of 10 rad/s for further calculations involving Vc. The discussion focuses on clarifying the correct application of angular velocity in the context of relative motion and instantaneous centers. Understanding the correct use of angular velocity is crucial for accurately determining the velocity of piston C.

Homework Statement

The bar AB is rotating with an angular velocity w=10rad/s. Determine the velocity of the piston C at the instant θ = 45. Provide the vector solution and the solution with the instantaneous center of zero velocity

Homework Equations

Vb = Va + w x r(b/a)
Vc = Vb + w x r(b/c)
vb = w*r(b/ic)

The Attempt at a Solution

I found Vb (Vb = w*rab) Vb=2108.2 cm*rad/s. Vc = 2108.2cm*rad/s + w*224.6cm. IS the w I use for the equation the one given to me (10 rad/s) or is it another one?

Kindly see the attached pdf. My attempt to solve it, is in it. I'm wondering if my solution is right. My idea is this: At any point of time, the ball may be assumed to be at an incline which is at an angle of θ(kindly see both the pics in the pdf file). The value of θ will continuously change and so will the value of friction. I'm not able to figure out, why my solution is wrong, if it is wrong .
TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
