Electronic Eng. Technology and EE

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the implications of pursuing an Electrical Engineering (EE) degree that is not ABET accredited, especially in relation to taking the Professional Engineer (PE) exam. The school offers an ABET-accredited Electronic Engineering Technology (EET) program, which can be completed before pursuing an additional EE degree. Concerns are raised about whether the lack of ABET accreditation for the EE degree would hinder future career opportunities, particularly regarding eligibility for the PE exam. There is a strong emphasis on the importance of ABET accreditation in engineering programs, with advice suggesting that attending a non-ABET accredited program could be detrimental. However, the presence of an ABET-accredited EET degree may provide some assurance, leading to questions about the overall impact on professional qualifications.

So at my school they have Electronic Engineering Technology & Electrical Engineering. However, the EET program is ABET accredited but the EE is not. They have the option of completing the EET degree then taking an additional 36 credits for the EE degree. So I'd have an ABET accredited degree in EET, so would it even matter if my EE degree wasn't ABET accredited if I wanted to end up taking the PE exam some day?

I don't want to shoot myself in the foot with the EE degree not being ABET accredited. I have had people tell me DO NOT consider a school that doesn't have an ABET accredited EE program, but I figured since the EET degree is ABET accredited it should be okay.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
