Homework Statement
A block of mass m=2.54kg sliding along a rough horizontal surface is traveling at a speed
vo= 10 m/s when it strikes a massless spring head-on (see Figure below) compressing the
spring. If the maximum compression is 10 cm and the spring constant is 25kN/m, what is
the coefficient of kinetic friction of the horizontal surface.

Relevant Equations
Well since this has spring constants I guess I'd have 1/2 kx^2.
I don't really know how to begin this problem. I need some advice

Do you know the work-energy theorem?

Thread 'Collision of a bullet on a rod-string system: query'
In this question, I have a question. I am NOT trying to solve it, but it is just a conceptual question. Consider the point on the rod, which connects the string and the rod. My question: just before and after the collision, is ANGULAR momentum CONSERVED about this point? Lets call the point which connects the string and rod as P. Why am I asking this? : it is clear from the scenario that the point of concern, which connects the string and the rod, moves in a circular path due to the string...
