Global warming: what lies beneath the ice?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the implications of global warming, particularly regarding the melting of glaciers and its effects on civilization, geology, and ecosystems at low altitudes. There is a concern that while glaciologists may benefit from studying the treasures revealed by thawing glaciers, the overall consequences could be detrimental, especially for coastal populations facing rising sea levels. The conversation highlights the potential dangers of uncovering what lies beneath the Antarctic ice cap, suggesting that the extinction of human life, particularly in vulnerable areas, could be a grim outcome. The sentiment leans toward preserving glaciers in their current state rather than allowing them to melt for scientific gain.

The global warming bane for flooded civilization, geology and ecosystems at low altitudes can be a bonus for glaciologists "while they last" in higher latitudes. Would you like to predict what treasures the thawing climate will reveal in the world's remaining glaciers?

Wouldn't it be better if we didn't find out what was beneath those glaciers??I mean, honestly, would it be well for glaciers in mountain regions to melt, only that a handful of scientists to benefit from it??

The real "treasure" lies beneath Antarctic ice cap !

Yeah, extinction of the human race,or at least of those at the shores...Me included... :-p

PS.Glaciers are good as they are now...

Hello, I’m currently writing a series of essays on Pangaea, continental drift, and Earth’s geological cycles. While working on my research, I’ve come across some inconsistencies in the existing theories — for example, why the main pressure seems to have been concentrated in the northern polar regions. So I’m curious: is there any data or evidence suggesting that an external cosmic body (an asteroid, comet, or another massive object) could have influenced Earth’s geology in the distant...
On August 10, 2025, there was a massive landslide on the eastern side of Tracy Arm fjord. Although some sources mention 1000 ft tsunami, that height represents the run-up on the sides of the fjord. Technically it was a seiche.
