Good Reference Books for Mechanics, Nuclear, Optics & More

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on finding a comprehensive set of reference books to replace a large collection, covering a wide range of topics including mechanics, nuclear physics, optics, solid-state physics, basic lab electronics, astronomy, quantum mechanics, and their mathematical foundations. Recommendations include the CRC Handbook of Physics and Chemistry, "The Art of Electronics" by Horowitz and Hill, Schaum's Outline of Mathematical Formulas, and the Arfken and Weber book on mathematical methods for physicists. These titles are suggested as valuable resources for anyone looking to consolidate their physics and engineering references while maintaining a broad scope of knowledge.

I'm looking to reduce the amount of books I have, but I'd like to get a few references references books to replace them.
I'd like a set of books that encompasses everything from mechanics, nuclear, optics, and solid state, to ,basic lab electronics, astronomy, quantum, and their mathematical underpinnings.

What do you guys recommend?

So far, google and amazon have indicated some books by Springer

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
This is part 2 of my thread Collection of Free Online Math Books and Lecture Notes Here, we will consider physics and mathematical methods for physics resources. Now, this is a work in progress.
