Are There Resources to Help Understand Black Holes for an Amateur Astronomer?

AI Thread Summary
Resources for understanding black holes include several educational websites that cater to those with a basic knowledge of quantum mechanics and relativity. Recommended sites are NASA's black hole page, the University of Illinois' Cyberia project, Berkeley's FAQ on black holes, and MIT's resources. These platforms provide accessible yet informative content on the physics of black holes. The discussion highlights the importance of reliable online materials for amateur astronomers seeking to deepen their understanding. Engaging with these resources can enhance knowledge of complex astronomical concepts.

I'm just wanted to know if someone could help me.

I'm not very schooled in the branch of astronomy so I just like to know if someone could help me with some simple websites (not too simple - I do know the basics about quantum mechanics and relativity) which could help me with understanding the physics behind black holes and stuff.

Ja, okay I admit it - I've been reading Stephen Hawking and he made me curious and my limited internet access kinda makes searching hard!

thanks!

Is a homemade radio telescope realistic? There seems to be a confluence of multiple technologies that makes the situation better than when I was a wee lad: software-defined radio (SDR), the easy availability of satellite dishes, surveillance drives, and fast CPUs. Let's take a step back - it is trivial to see the sun in radio. An old analog TV, a set of "rabbit ears" antenna, and you're good to go. Point the antenna at the sun (i.e. the ears are perpendicular to it) and there is...

Your posts, clips and photos may by all means include scientific information; that does not make it less beautiful to me (n.b. the posts must of course comply with the PF guidelines, i.e. regarding science, only mainstream science is allowed, fringe/pseudoscience is not allowed). n.b.
