How can I detect rotary motion in CNC machines using a standard method?

AI Thread Summary
Detecting rotary motion in CNC machines can be achieved using a proximity sensor to monitor motor shaft pulses, but converting these pulses into a continuous signal remains a challenge. A standard method is sought to ensure compatibility across various CNC machines, as relying on specific control signals can be inconsistent. One suggested solution is the use of a centrifugal switch, which may provide a reliable means of detecting motor operation. The discussion emphasizes the need for a mechanical arrangement that can trigger a limit switch when the motor is running. Overall, the focus is on finding a universal solution for motion detection in diverse CNC systems.

Hello everybody,

I am basically in computer & electronics field. In one of my project, I want to get the status of the motor of cnc machines (to detect whether it is running or not). Speed is not important. Presently I am using proximity sensor near the motor shaft. I get pulses when motor is running. Then I have to convert these pulses to a continuous signal.

I am looking for some simple mechanical arrangement to detect linear or rotary motion. So that a limit switch will operate when motor is running.

Thanks.

There must be something controlling the motor which at some stage in the controller tells the motor to run can you piggyback onto that signal.

Thanks Jobrag. Yes, such signal is available on some machines. But as my product is used with different types of CNC machines, every time I have to find such signal which is difficult.

Thats why I have decided to use a standard method which will work for any machine. I got one tip to use centrifugal switch, I will see whether it is possible or not.

Here's a video by “driving 4 answers” who seems to me to be well versed on the details of Internal Combustion engines. The video does cover something that's a bit shrouded in 'conspiracy theory', and he touches on that, but of course for phys.org, I'm only interested in the actual science involved. He analyzes the claim of achieving 100 mpg with a 427 cubic inch V8 1970 Ford Galaxy in 1977. Only the fuel supply system was modified. I was surprised that he feels the claim could have been...
Thread 'Turbocharging carbureted petrol 2 stroke engines'
Hi everyone, online I ve seen some images about 2 stroke carbureted turbo (motorcycle derivation engine). Now.. In the past in this forum some members spoke about turbocharging 2 stroke but not in sufficient detail. The intake and the exhaust are open at the same time and there are no valves like a 4 stroke. But if you search online you can find carbureted 2stroke turbo sled or the Am6 turbo. The question is: Is really possible turbocharge a 2 stroke carburated(NOT EFI)petrol engine and...
