How Do You Calculate the Acceleration of a Crate with Kinetic Friction?

AI Thread Summary
To calculate the acceleration of a crate with kinetic friction, one must consider the forces acting on it, including the applied force, gravitational force, and frictional force. The applied force of 325 N at a 25-degree angle must be resolved into horizontal and vertical components to determine the net force. The coefficient of kinetic friction (0.25) is crucial for calculating the frictional force opposing the motion. By applying Newton's second law, the net force can be used to find the acceleration of the crate. Understanding these concepts is essential for solving the problem effectively.

I need some serious help with my homework.
I have no idea how to solve the following problem:

A 925 N crate is being pushed across a level floor by a force F of 325 N at and angle of 25 degrees above the horizontal. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the crate and floor is 0.25. Find the magnitude of the acceleration of the crate.

Please Help!

You have to show some work to get help here.

If you haven't got far enough to do calculations, then at least give some thoughts on the problem. What concepts do you think apply? What laws can be used here?

i have no clue! my teacher never bothered to teach our class anything about this!

These forums are not here to help you get others to do your homework, but to get help with your homework. You have to show that you put some thought into the problem to get help here. You can't possibly know NOTHING about the problem. Have you read the section in the book on friction? Have you read the chapter on forces? You must have talked about these topics at least a tiny bit in class. Try to answer these questions to get started on the problem:

1)You are given forces and want to find the acceleration of a system. How do you find the acceleration of a system from the forces on it?

2)How does knowing the coefficient of friction help you find the friction force?

Thread 'Collision of a bullet on a rod-string system: query'
In this question, I have a question. I am NOT trying to solve it, but it is just a conceptual question. Consider the point on the rod, which connects the string and the rod. My question: just before and after the collision, is ANGULAR momentum CONSERVED about this point? Lets call the point which connects the string and rod as P. Why am I asking this? : it is clear from the scenario that the point of concern, which connects the string and the rod, moves in a circular path due to the string...
Thread 'A cylinder connected to a hanging mass'
Let's declare that for the cylinder, mass = M = 10 kg Radius = R = 4 m For the wall and the floor, Friction coeff = ##\mu## = 0.5 For the hanging mass, mass = m = 11 kg First, we divide the force according to their respective plane (x and y thing, correct me if I'm wrong) and according to which, cylinder or the hanging mass, they're working on. Force on the hanging mass $$mg - T = ma$$ Force(Cylinder) on y $$N_f + f_w - Mg = 0$$ Force(Cylinder) on x $$T + f_f - N_w = Ma$$ There's also...
