AI Thread Summary
The brain teaser involves determining Adam's age based on the relationship between his age and Marty's. Marty is currently 24 years old and is twice as old as Adam was when Marty was as old as Adam is now. The discussion reveals that Adam is 12 years old, as this fits the conditions of the problem. Participants analyze the age differential and confirm that the information provided is sufficient to solve the riddle. The consensus is that the age difference remains consistent throughout the scenario.

OK...a friend of mine sent me this brain teaser and I haven't been able to crack it...I'm starting to think that maybe he made it up himself and there is no possible solution...to me its a dead end unless there's something I'm missing...I even tried googling it and found nothing...so here it is...

Marty is 24 years old. Marty is twice as old as Adam was when Marty was as old as Adam is now. How old is Adam?

If you know the answer or figure it out...post it here or pm me. :rolleyes:

Let me think... 18?

When Marty was 18, Adam would have been 12.

Yep. That works.

and how did you guys come up with that answer? Adam was 12 when Marty was as old as Adam is now. There is not enough information

Code:
M2

A2     M1

       A1

We have:
M2 = 24
A2 = M1
M2 - A2 = M1 - A1
M2 = 2*A1

Plenty of information.

yea as i posted that i was thinking the age differential is preserved

Insights auto threads is broken atm, so I'm manually creating these for new Insight articles. In Dirac’s Principles of Quantum Mechanics published in 1930 he introduced a “convenient notation” he referred to as a “delta function” which he treated as a continuum analog to the discrete Kronecker delta. The Kronecker delta is simply the indexed components of the identity operator in matrix algebra Source: https://www.physicsforums.com/insights/what-exactly-is-diracs-delta-function/ by...
Suppose ,instead of the usual x,y coordinate system with an I basis vector along the x -axis and a corresponding j basis vector along the y-axis we instead have a different pair of basis vectors ,call them e and f along their respective axes. I have seen that this is an important subject in maths My question is what physical applications does such a model apply to? I am asking here because I have devoted quite a lot of time in the past to understanding convectors and the dual...
