How to use trigonometry on calculator

AI Thread Summary
To use trigonometric functions correctly on a calculator, ensure it's set to the appropriate angle mode. The user encountered an issue calculating (483 N) cos(44) and received an incorrect result because the calculator was in radian mode instead of degree mode. For T.I. 85 or 86 calculators, changing the mode involves pressing MODE and selecting the option to switch between degrees and radians. Setting the calculator to degrees will yield the correct result of 347 N. Properly adjusting the mode is crucial for accurate trigonometric calculations.

I know this is a pretty basic question, but it's holding me back from doing my homework due tonight. How do I use trig functions on my calculator. For example and problem in my book says:
(483 N) cos (44) = 347 N
When I plug it in my calculator like so:
(483)cos(44) =
I get: 482.9243181

What am I doing wrong??
Thank you SO much!

Your calculator is finding the cosine of 44 radians; You want to find the cosine of 44 degrees. If you have a T.I. 85 or 86, here's how to change the calculator from degrees to radian mode:

Press MODE.
The third option changes the angle mode between degrees and radians. Set this to degrees.

Thank you very much!

I think it's easist first to watch a short vidio clip I find these videos very relaxing to watch .. I got to thinking is this being done in the most efficient way? The sand has to be suspended in the water to move it to the outlet ... The faster the water , the more turbulance and the sand stays suspended, so it seems to me the rule of thumb is the hose be aimed towards the outlet at all times .. Many times the workers hit the sand directly which will greatly reduce the water...
I don't need cloth simulation. I need to simulate clothing meshes. Made of triangles and I need an answer that someone with High School math can understand. I am actually using the time it takes for someone to answer to create a model with less geometry than the one I have been using. I want clothing that can be removed on a model that will be animated. I don't need stretching or wrinkles on my meshes, I just need gravity. I have an idea of how I could do it, but I don't know how to apply...
