I need the name of a Master's specialization

AI Thread Summary
Marcos, an aspiring Electrical Engineer from Venezuela, is seeking guidance on the English terminology for his specialization in power distribution design for residential areas. He is looking for the appropriate names to facilitate his research into colleges and universities in the United States. Respondents suggest searching for "Electrical Engineering" and "Power Systems," which are relevant areas of study. Additionally, Marcos is concerned about the demand for this specialization in the U.S. While specific demand information is not provided, it is recommended to consult professional society websites like IEEE for insights into industry trends and opportunities.

Hi, my name is Marcos and I'm from Venezuela

I'm planning to go to the United States to study a specialization for my career as an Electrical Engineer.

I've always liked the idea of planning and design of power distribution for residential areas, houses, buildings, etc.

I've been researching, but due to our language differences, I can't find the right name for this specialization in English.

Can anyone of you tell me the name of this specialization in english? This way it is easier for me to research for Colleges or Universities.

Another thing, although I like a lot this specialization, I need to know if there is any demand at all for this one in the United States. Can you please give me any advice?

Thank you very much

Regards

Marcos

I think if you look for "Electrical Engineering" and "Power Systems" you will find appropriate programs. Quick googling got hits for a number of EE programs with this area of specialization. I do not know what sort of demand there is in this particular area of engineering. Look for information on Professional Society sites -- IEEE, etc.

Thanks my friend, I appreciate it

I don't know if anyone on here works for any of the well known defense companies of your country, whichever country you are from?? Also, if you choose to work in one, do you think the engineering education provide from your school would adequately prepare you for the job. What do I mean by that? Well if you work at say Lockheed Martin and you work in the latest iteration of a missile or if you work at Pratt & Whitney, they assign you to work in the team helping out with building the jet...
Hello, I graduated from undergrad a few years ago with a Major in Physics and minor in Electrical Engineering. I tried to get experience working on and testing circuits through my professor who studied Neutrinos, however covid caused the opportunity to go away and I graduated with no experience or internships. I have attempted to break into the engineering industry with no success. Right now I am considering going for a Masters in Electrical Engineering and I need advice on if this would be...
So lately, my interest in the realm of optics/optoelectronics/photonics engineering has grown and I have started to seriously consider pursuing a career in the field. I have done a bit of career research and also have done some learning on the side to gather more knowledge on these topics. However, I have some questions on what a career in these fields would look like, and I wanted to find out more about this area to know what I would be getting myself into if I did make the choice to pursue...
