AI Thread Summary
International editions of physics textbooks are generally similar to their U.S. counterparts, with differences primarily in cover design, paper quality, and spelling. For subjects like mathematics, the content remains largely unchanged, making international editions a viable option for students not required to submit homework. An example discussed is the international edition of "Classical Mechanics" by Goldstein, which features lower quality paper but retains the same problems and content, with some publication information in Chinese while the text remains in English. Overall, these editions offer a cost-effective alternative without significant impact on learning.

Has anybody ever bought an international edition of a physics textbook? Are they significantly different from the U.S. version? (Same problems except with only SI units?)

for Maths, they are usually identical beside the cover, quality of paper and spelling. If you are not needed to do homework, international version would not affect your learning at all.

I have an international edition of Classical Mechanics by Goldstein. It has lower quality paper (you can nearly see through it!) but all of the problems are the same. The publication information contains some chinese but other than that it is all english.

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
